Group portraits of soldiers of the First Regiment of California Volunteers during the Spanish American War period, presumably assembled at San Francisco's Presidio or another San Francisco Bay Area military base. Images are dated 1899 and therefore follow the regiments 1898 service in the Philippines.

Harry B. Arnold was a proprietor in the Arnold Bros. grocery business, at 21st and Valencia Streets in San Francisco. He is presumed to have taken these photographs, although he may have acted as a sales agent for an unidentified photographer.
